Sonia Citron delivered a breakout two-way performance, leading the Mystics to a hard-fought 68-65 season-opening victory over the Toronto Tempo.

She controlled the game offensively with efficient shot-making and timely perimeter scoring while also making major defensive plays with hustle defense and weak-side blocks.
Washington leaned heavily on its young core throughout the game:

Rori Harmon — 3 steals

Angela Dugalic and the rest of the Mystics helped secure a strong defensive team victory.
The Mystics struggled offensively as a team, shooting just 39% from the field, but their defense stepped up in a major way, holding Toronto to only 27% shooting and helping close the game late.
It is only the first game of the season, but this young Mystics team already appears to have strong chemistry and energy together.
